UUCOV Needs Volunteers
The new fiscal year is underway at UUCOV, but a number of people are still needed to take on some tasks:
Team Leader for Social Activities & Interest Groups: The right person for this task will be someone who is an idea person, but also someone who delegates specific jobs. One individual person should not be responsible for organizing and implementing the number of social activities we enjoy at UUCOV, but we do need someone who will identify those social activities. Some of the identification and delegation has already been taken care of, but there is more planning that could be done. The person who accepts this assignment will also sit in on the Coordinating Council (see related article elsewhere in this newsletter).
Advertising/External Promotions: This person will be a member of the Connections Team working with Wendie Highsmith.. More information is available by contacting Wendie.
Delegate to Venice Interfaith Community Association (VICA): VICA is looking for representation from two people from each member congregation. Currently UUCOV has only one delegate: Brad Hardin. Brad will be continuing to work with VICA, but another person is needed. Brad will have more specific information about this assignment.
Memorial Plaques: The right person for this task will be someone who will be sure that the information to be included on a purchased plaque is correct, that the plaque is ordered at the appropriate time, and that the plaque is then installed. Note, this is a paper work task, although some driving is necessary – the person accepting this assignment does not have to construct the plaque or install it, they just need to know who to contact.
We’re collecting contributions toward Don’s retirement gift
As is customary upon a Minister's retirement, the Board of Trustees of UUCOV has authorized the collection of voluntary gifts that will be presented to Don at service on June 24. Such gifts are solely in recognition of the esteem, fondness and gratitude of individual members for Don's affiliation with our Congregation and the Denomination over the years. Should you wish to contribute, checks clearly marked for this purpose, and payable to UUCOV can be placed in the Sunday collection or forwarded to Bonnie Norton, Chairman of Finance Committee at the office by Sunday, June 17. Please note, these amounts are gifts directly to Don, and will not be considered a charitable contribution to UUCOV. If you wish to do so, gifts may also be directed to Don personally. And of course, cards, notes or other gifts of thanks and appreciation are always appropriate.
Being Remembered at UUCOV
Have you given any thought to how you will be remembered by friends and loved ones? As a member of UUCOV, there are two ways you can do this: the Memorial Book and now a name plaque. Some people might prefer to be remembered in both ways.
The Memorial Book combines art and beautiful calligraphy to identify the uniqueness of each individual. This book is available to view each Sunday morning; if you haven't seen it, be sure to take a look. A brochure is available about the Memorial Book, but you have specific questions, contact Marilyn Amick.
Some people might prefer a more public sign of remembrance, such as a plaque or inclusion by name in a Memorial Garden. Being offered for the first time, a member of UUCOV can order a personalized name plate
Coordinating Council Expands
In May, 2011, the Board of Trustees adopted a plan to develop a Coordinating Council (CC). The purpose of the Council is to 1) improve coordination between committees, 2) facilitate the strategic planning process, 3) ensure integration of program planning and financial planning, 4) ensure board policies are implemented at the committee level, and 5) identify issues or concerns that need board attention.
The CC has been in existence for a number of months and adaptations have been made periodically to assure that all purposes for which it was created are addressed. Recently two new teams have been added to the CC: Caring & Remembrance and Social Activities & Interest Groups. All UUCOV committees have been distributed among the teams. Information about each of the teams, including the team leader and contact information is included in the front of the UUCOV Directory distributed on April 15 (the one with the bright yellow cover).
If you have a question about any of the teams, please contact Bev Morrison, President or Mary Taylor, Vice President.
